Who We Are:

The birth of The Green Barn sprang from seeds sown long ago amidst a life-long love of antiques and quality things of old. Salvaging these useful items back then, saving them from “the dump” in those days, was a “green” gesture, an environmentally friendly act long before this term became popular. Today these pre-used antiques form the backbone of our new business, The Green Barn, a business that has expanded to include a slew of modern environmentally friendly products, concepts and services. Our strict criteria ensure that any “new” products are made exclusively from recycled materials and renewable resources, and that moreover, they are produced by local Nova Scotians. By supporting local craft people and local manufacturers we aim to bolster the local economy and preserve the fabric of life, the sense of community so important in rural regions of Nova Scotia and Canada. Thus, our combination of environmentally sound purchasing and community building should ensure many future years of healthy living for Canadians.

Carla Emin has been an antique dealer in Nova Scotia for the past twenty years. During this time she also restored/saved several period homes.  In the process recycled materials were used whenever possible with the philosophy of never throwing anything out; it can always be reused somewhere else. Carla has taken these interests and incorporated them into her vision of the Green Barn and the future of our planet.
